Brenda's
Pizzeria on Route 219 just south of the Deep
Creek Lake Bridge makes perfectly fine pizza, hero sandwiches,
and basic pasta dishes, with fresh ingredients and homemade
sauces. (301.387.1007).
Pine
Lodge Steakhouse in the center of McHenry, overlooking
the Lake, is a solid bet for family dining with an emphasis
on, well, steaks. They also have the Lake's best wine list.
Jam-packed a lot of the time, especially on weekends. 301.387.6500.
The
Deer Park Inn & Restaurant, 10 minutes east of
Oakland and 25 minutes south of McHenry, is maybe the best
diamond in any rough around. If you're looking for country
French food to rival that in any city you're from, call
for reservations (301.334.2308) and then take about half
the money you'd usually need at such a place. Consider staying
there, too -- the inn is romantically situated in a late
19th-century country vacation cottage. French owners Pascal
and Sandy do most everything themselves, from foi gras
to confit to fab desserts, and the wine list is packed
with interesting European selections.

Accommodations
The Lake area has several B&Bs and motels, but we recommend
the following for being especially good values, with especially
nice and competent hosts.
The Riverside Hotel - 301-746-5253
Serving simple, vegetarian dinners in a unique family setting and providing bed and breakfast style riverfront rooms at reasonable rates. The historic 1800's hotel is located at 639 Water Street in downtown Friendsville, along the banks of the Youghiogheny River Wild and Scenic River Corridor..
Deer Park Inn
(above) (301.334.2308).
Haley Farms Bed and
Breakfast, mid-way between McHenry and Oakland on Route
219, is unique for its comfortable rooms and true farm feel.
Friday evening outdoor fires and marshmallow roasts are
nicely down-home informal; conveniently located near all
the Lake attractions. (301.387.9050)
North Glade INN
Bed and Breakfast. Located a few miles off of route
219 over the Glendale Bridge. Nice pond, close to the Savage
Forest, lake font access. Fred and Tammy the innkeepers
treat you right with a smile.
Nemacolin Woodlands
Resort and Spa has quickly gained fame as one of the
finest resort spas in the world. It is just 12 minutes from
the winery in Farmington, Pa. The list of amenities is simply
too long to list, but many repeat visitors to the region
consider Nemacolin the area's top draw (800-422-2736).
Savage River
Lodge is among the priciest of all Lake area B&Bs
but the service is truly superb, the room selections are
diverse, and the setting is like few other places in the
East -- way back in the real, deep woods. Four-wheel-drive
recommended most times of the year (301.689.3200).
Sunset Inn, conveniently located
right beside Interstate 68 in Friendsville, just minutes
from the winery and Deep Creek Lake, boasts extremely nice,
clean rooms and efficiencies, and modest rates (301.746.5445).
The same goes for the Garrett Inn, between McHenry and Oakland
near all the Lake's attractions (301.387. 6696).
